A Guardian Home is a special opportunity for loving families to raise and care for a top-quality Australian Labradoodle while contributing to the betterment of the breed. At Liberty Hill Labradoodles, we believe all our dogs deserve individualized attention and a loving home environment, even while being part of our breeding program.
As a guardian, you'll receive a pick-of-the-litter puppy or occasionally an adolescent dog, and they'll become your forever pet. The puppy will live with you full-time, receiving all the love, care, and nurturing of a family pet, while also playing an important role in our program.
For females, the breeding career typically begins around 2 years old and ends around age 4. For males, it starts around 1 year old and can last until around 7 years old. After their breeding career is complete, the dog will be spayed/neutered and become 100% yours.
The responsibility of being a Guardian for a female and male breeding dog are slightly different and are laid out below:
Females: Liberty Hill Labradoodles will retain the breeding rights for up to 4 litters. During the females breeding heat-cycle the Guardian family will need to notify the breeder and be able to take the female to the Breeders reproductive vet for scheduled progesterone testing. Once the females progesterone levels indicate that she is ready for breeding then there will be 1-2 "honeymoon" dates. Once the female is bred, she will continue to live with her Guardian family for the duration of her pregnancy. The female will come to the Breeders home 1 week before her due date to settle in before whelping. Once the puppies have been delivered, the female will stay at the Breeders house until the puppies are fully weened (approx 5 weeks). Once puppies are weened then the Female will return to her Guardian family. The Guardian family is encouraged to visit their dog and her puppies during her stay with us. A female will typically have her first litter around her 2nd birthday and will have her last litter around 4 years old.
Males:Liberty Hill Labradoodles will retain breeding rights for up to 7 years. A Male breeding dog will spend less time away from their home while being part of our breeding program. A male will begin his breeding career at 1 year of age and retires around 7 years of age. For the most part, a male will only need to be away from his Guardian Family for a couple hours at a time for scheduled breeding appointments.
**Liberty Hill Labradoodles takes care of all costs related to breeding, whelping and raising of puppies. Guardians will pay for the routine costs/care of owning a dog. ex: routine vet care, grooming, premium dog food, dog training, heartworm/flea/tick prevention, pet supplies etc.**
